Martha L. Demberg was born in 1897 in Russia and immigrated to the United States in 1915. She married Herman Kruhmin (Kruhman, Krūmiņš) in 1919, and the following year the couple lived at 5132 Brown St. in Philadelphia, according to the U.S. census. Living with them was Martha's 75-year-old father, Carl.
